the Future of Farming- Hydroponic gardening

"Hydro"  meaning water and "ponic" The ponics part of the word also has a Greek root, ponein, "to labor or toil.". Hydroponics is the method of soil-free growing plants. Growing plants without soil is known as hydroponics. It might sound weird, but many of the foods we eat—including tomatoes on the vine—are already grown hydroponically. Nutrients and supplements are absorbed into water in a hydroponic system, producing a solution of nutrients. The nutrient solution is distributed to the roots of the plant and then collected and recirculated through the process.

Growing America's Youth Program creates opportunities for youth from low-income, ethnically diverse neighborhoods and teaches them how to grow food, do research, and how science can help them make a positive contribution to their society. We also developed a curriculum that incorporates hydroponics into educational settings at both in-and out-of-school.
